US-China rising tensions
Beijing has urged Washington to halt military ties with Taiwan. this in response to reports that US marines have been on the island for more than a year to train Taiwanese forces.
China stressed it will do anything to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity. Beijing says the island of 24 million people is part of its territory, threatening to take its control by force if taipei announces independence. This, amid news that a US nuclear-powered navy submarine has collided with an object in the South China Sea. This has prompted some Chinese to take to social media and ask the govt to strike back and liberate Taiwan immediately.
