Yemeni forces liberate large territory in Ma’rib in grand-scale offensive against mercenaries

The spokesman of the Yemeni Armed Forces, Brigadier General Yahya Saree

The Yemeni Army and allied popular committees have managed to liberate an area of 1,600 square kilometers and killed or wounded thousands of mercenaries in their latest advances against the Saudi-led coalition troops in Yemen’s oil-rich province of Ma’rib.

In a press conference on Friday, the spokesman of the Yemeni Armed Forces, Brigadier General Yahya Saree revealed the details of Operation Intense Strength, which has been underway for several months and successfully achieved its goals, Yemen’s Arabic-language al-Masirah television network reported.

“With the multilateral offensive, our forces have begun a new phase in liberating Yemeni territory from the invaders and occupiers. Our armed forces reopened new routes and followed specific tactics in line with military geography,” he said.

Saree noted that although the commencement of the multilateral operation was not announced at the time, Yemeni people were following its details and achievements almost on a daily basis, adding that the full-scale offensive covered large parts of the central province, and Saudi-backed mercenaries were fully expelled from the liberated areas.

He confirmed that the Yemeni forces managed to recover what were in the liberated areas of the camps and headquarters of the armed forces.

The spokesman noted that one of the most important achievements of the operation was the liberation of the of Madghal and Majzar in Ma’rib, as well as the liberation Mas camp, which was considered as one of the largest camps used by the enemy during the past few years.

During Operation Intense Strength, the Yemeni army launched 161 missile attacks against Saudi-backed forces and mercenaries, Saree said, adding that 128 such attacks hit targets inside Yemen and 33 others targeted positions deep inside Saudi Arabia.

He noted that all missiles used in the operation were domestically manufactured, such as Badr, Nikal, Saeer, Qassem, Zulfiqar, and Quds 2.

Saree further reported that the Yemeni army launched a total of 319 drone attacks during the said operation, 136 ones against targets inside Saudi Arabia and 183 others against positions held by invaders in Yemen.

The Yemeni army spokesman also said that 3,000 Saudi-backed mercenaries were killed, 12,400 of them were wounded and 550 were captured, adding that some 1,500 military vehicles and personnel carriers were either damaged or destroyed, in addition to the destruction of several weapons caches.

Yemen has been beset by violence and chaos since March 2015, when Saudi Arabia and its allies—emboldened by their Western-manufactured arms—launched a devastating war against the poorest West Asian country to reinstall Yemen’s overthrown government of Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi in Sana’a and crush the Ansarullah resistance movement.

The war, accompanied by a tight siege, has failed to reach its goals and killed hundreds of thousands of Yemeni people, putting millions more at risk of starvation by destroying much of the country’s infrastructure.

Yemen maintains that its operations against Saudi Arabia are defensive in nature and would end as soon as Riyadh ends the war and siege.
