5-year-old boy shoots 3-year-old girl in US state of Minnesota

A 5-year-old boy has shot 3-year-old girl dead in the US state of Minnesota after getting a hold of the firearm at midnight.

Sheriff Tom Burch said made the announcement in a news release as many details remained unknown, including the relationship between the two children which led to the death of one at 3:54 am.

“The Cass County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an accidental shooting at a residence in Bena MN. Deputies responded and learned that a juvenile female, age 3, had been shot by accidental gunfire by a juvenile male, age 5, in the household,” read the news release.

Nearly 1,000 children have been killed by guns so far this, a figure that closed at over 3,000 in 2019.

“The victim was being transported to the Deer River Hospital by family members and intercepted by the Deer River Ambulance. Lifesaving efforts were attempted. The juvenile female was pronounced deceased at the Deer River Hospital. An autopsy is pending with the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office and the investigation continues.”

The issue of gun control has returned to country’s political discourse in the wake of daily gun violence spinning out of control in the country.

President Joe Biden has already introduced several executive actions to reduce gun violence including banning so-called ghost guns and prioritizing community violence prevention in existing programs.

However, supporters of gun control in the United States have been lashing out at him over lack of enough action to address one of the key issues the nation has been facing for decades, despite vowing to do so during the 2020 presidential campaign.
