Beginning with taekwondo at the Tokyo Olympic Games, Iran’s Mirhashem Hosseini has suffered a 34 to 22 loss against Ulugbek Rashitov of Uzbekistan in the quarter-finals.
Hosseini trailed by a single point after the first round, but lost his momentum afterwards as the Uzbek rival extended his lead by 14 to 7 before capturing the 3rd round 20 to 14 to move into the semi-finals in the minus 67 kg category. The Iranian could have a chance to fight in the repechage if Rashitov advances to the final.
Earlier in the day, Naahid Kiyani also suffered an 18 to 9 loss against Kimia Alizadeh in the women's minus 57 kg category. Kiyani might have a chance to fight for bronze in the repechage, if Alizadeh reaches the final bout.
