Iranian basketballers have opened their Group A campaign with an 84 to 78 loss against the Czech Republic.
Team Iran started on the back foot as they dropped the 1st quarter 25 to 19. The Iranians surrendered in the 2nd quarter to trail by 16 points at 46 to 30 before heading to the locker rooms. The Czech Republic continued to shine after the interval to take a 67 to 46 lead by the end of the 3rd stanza. Team Iran rallied in the 4th to take it 32-17, but it was too little too late to avoid the defeat. Behnam Yakhchali scored a game high 23 points, while Blake Schilb led the Czechs with 14.
Next up, Iran will face the USA, while the Czechs are up against France.
