2006 Lebanon War: Bitter flavor of greatest defeat suffered by Israel

Fifteen years ago, Israel launched a full-scale military campaign against Lebanon, but fighters of the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah defeated the regime’s military and forced it to embarrassingly retreat without achieving any of Tel Aviv’s objectives. An informative and well-researched book now recounts in detail the historic and humiliating defeat, which most importantly shattered the myth of invincibility that had surrounded the Zionist regime since its illegitimate creation in 1948.

The book, which is titled “Bitter Flavor of the Greatest Defeat” and subtitled “The Sixth War: Beginning of the Downfall of the Zionist Regime”, is written by Salman Reza and Ali Qasim in Arabic, edited and annotated by Abu Yahya a al-Hussaini, who has also translated it into English and is published by International Association of Muslim University Professors.

The monograph gives a thorough account and in-depth analysis of the 33-day war, which is commonly known as the 2006 Lebanon War, or the 2006 Israel–Hezbollah War, or the July War (in Lebanon.)

“It is a concrete historic reality that Israel was built on 'Palestine' by terrorism, massacres and forced mass displacement of the Palestinians and the continuous occupation of the Palestinian Lands and exists today only as a rogue and fake state. Israel has no existence in the legal and real sense of the word in the civilized world,” the authors said in the beginning.

The book provides comparative details of the unmatchable military power of the Zionist army and that of Hezbollah, daily events of the war, the complicity of the United States and the Western powers with the Zionist entity, inert and conspiring role of Arab Nations and the United Nations during the Israeli-imposed war, which did not fulfill any of the regime’s military or political objectives but claimed the lives of more than one thousand civilians in Lebanon.

The book is divided into three sections. Section one deals with the political aspect of the war, section two analyzes the military aspect of the war and the final section scrutinizes the economic and social aspects of war, with each section shedding light on the historic defeat of the Zionist regime in the Second Lebanon War, as it is known in Israel, and the unparalleled heroism by Hezbollah fighters.

“Successive defeats of Israeli army while facing resistance fighters of Hezbollah and the US fears about the continuation of such defeats and severity of insecure environment in the region, led the US government officials to change their stance and against the previously adopted position, they now put pressure on Israel for accepting the ceasefire,” the book reads.

It also includes an appendix that provides full text of the historic speech delivered by Hezbollah’s Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah after the victory of the resistance group, a message relayed by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei. The appendix also includes important historic details related to Hezbollah, Palestine, and Zionist army military conflicts.

“The efforts of Israeli political and military leaders during the war with Lebanon for keeping the morale of the general public of Israeli society led them to give incorrect information to their people about the war. This issue even led to the fact that Israelis in order to get true information about war would listen to Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah’s speech. They, in the same way, would take the views and statements of their own leaders about achieving the objectives of the war as unreliable and exaggerated,” the book further reads.

A historic prediction by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, on September 9, 2015, heads the book:

“You [Zionist regime] will not see next 25 years. Insha’Allah till next 25 years, with Divine opportunity and Divine support, there will be no such thing by the name of the Zionist regime in the region.”

The war started on July 12, 2006, and continued until a UN-mediated ceasefire went into effect in the morning of August 14, 2006, though it formally ended on September 8, 2006, when the Israeli regime was forced to remove its naval blockade against Lebanon.

The publisher hopes that the book will serve as a reference for academic researchers and scholars worldwide to further study the myth of the military power of the Zionist regime and the emerging role of Hezbollah and its full support for the Palestinian resistance in the Middle East.
