Iran posts $681mln trade surplus for month to late June

Iran’s customs office says non-oil exports surged by 52% to $4.369 billion in the month to June 21.

Iran’s customs office IRICA has updated trade figures related to the calendar month to late June which shows the country had a trade surplus of $681 million over the period.

IRICA figures published on Wednesday showed that exports of non-oil goods from Iran had increased by 52% in value terms in the month to June 21 to a total of $4.369 billion.

Imports declined by just 1% against the month to late May to $3.688 billion, according to the figures published in local media outlets.

The increase in June exports figures is lower than the 69% quarterly surge reported by IRICA for the three months to June 21 against the same period in 2020.

IRICA spokesman Rouhollah Latifi said that Iraq had topped the list of main export destinations for Iran in the month to late June by $1.391 billion worth of purchases, followed by China at $1.91 billion and the United Arab Emirates at $426 million while Afghanistan and Turkey were collectively responsible for $410 worth of imports from Iran.

Top exporters into Iran over the same period, however, were the UAE with $1.327 billion worth of shipments, followed by China at $729 million and Turkey at $384 million, said Latifi, adding that Germany and Switzerland came fourth and fifth in the list with $129 million and $101 million worth of shipments, respectively.

IRICA figures showed that transit through Iran had experienced a slight decline of 3% compared to the month to late May.

That comes against a quarterly surge of 121% in trade transit reported by IRICA for the three months to late June.
