Hundreds of Austrian protesters gather outside the office of Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, expressing their anger at the government’s decision to take Israel’s side as it continues its deadly bombardment of the besieged Gaza Strip.
Protesters were not given legal permission for a large demonstration, but they did gather outside the Chancellery, expressing outrage at the fact that the Israeli flag has been hoisted on top of this building.
Organizers said that by raising its flag and expressing solidarity with Israel, the government has violated Austria’s Constitution.
Political commentators say Austria’s one-sided political position runs contrary to the country’s traditional policies founded on democracy.
Activists say they will continue their attempts to pile public pressure on the government and are calling on authorities to give them back their right to demonstrate.
