During a virtual meeting on Monday, the EU's top diplomat, Josep Borrell updated the bloc's 27 foreign affairs ministers on the latest state of play regarding talks in Vienna to try and save the Iran nuclear deal.
He told them that discussions have become less general and more focused, particularly regarding US sanctions against Iran and the Islamic Republic's nuclear energy program.
Representatives from Iran, Russia, China, France, Britain, Germany and the European Commission are attempting to preserve the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action during negotiations in the Austrian capital. US officials are there on the sidelines of the talks. Given that the nuclear deal is underpinned by UN resolution 2231, the vast majority of diplomats agree it should be respected.
