Bahraini people have staged rallies to pay homage to top Iranian anti-terror commander Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani and his Iraqi trenchmate Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis on the first anniversary of their assassination by the US military last year.

The demonstrators took to the streets in different locations, holding up pictures of the two commanders and those of Bahrain’s most prominent Shia cleric Ayatollah Sheikh Isa Qassim.

They also chanted in Arabic, “With our souls and with our blood, we sacrifice for our martyrs.”

The participants called for revenge against those behind the assassination of General Soleimani and his companions.

The marchers also pledged to continue on the path of the commanders to support the Palestinian cause and reject normalization agreements with the Israeli regime.

General Soleimani, the commander of the Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), and his Iraqi trenchmate Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the deputy head of the Popular Mobilization Units, were assassinated along with their companions in a US drone strike ordered by President Donald Trump near Baghdad International Airport on January 3 last year.

Iraqi lawmakers approved a bill two days later, demanding the withdrawal of all foreign military forces led by the United States from the country.

Both commanders were admired by Muslim nations for helping eliminate the US-sponsored Daesh Takfiri terrorist group in the region, particularly in Iraq and Syria.

The US assassination of the popular anti-terror figures drew a wave of anger and condemnation from officials and movements throughout the world, and triggered huge public protests across the region.
