Georgia Democrat candidate warns of US government paralysis if GOP holds Senate

Democratic Georgia Senate candidate Jon Ossoff has warned of paralysis in US government if GOP manages to hold majority in the Senate.

A GOP-led Senate, headed by Republican Senator Mitch McConnel, would not allow the federal government to function under future President Joe Biden, Ossoff told CNN on Sunday.

“We all know what’s going to happen if McConnell holds the Senate,” he said. “He will try to do to Biden and [Vice President-elect Kamala] Harris just like he tried to do to President [Barack] Obama.”

Trump blasts Georgia Governor for not backing his voter fraud claims

US President Donald Trump has blasted the Republican Governor of Georgia Brian Kemp for not backing his claims of voter fraud that he alleged cost him the election to Joe Biden.

“It will be paralysis, partisan trench warfare, obstructionism as far as the eye can see at a moment of crisis when we need strong action,” he added.

Ossoff is set to face Republican Senator David Perdue in a runoff on January 5, a race that could determine which party holds ultimate power in the upper chamber of US Congress.

“A lot has happened in Georgia in 12 years, an extraordinary movement to register voters, to mobilize communities, to train volunteers to get out the vote,” he said, stressing that the president-elect needs “the capacity... to govern in the midst of a crisis.”
