UNHCR Commissioner Filippo Grandi has disclosed that many Ethiopian refugees want to return home but they are afraid of violence that erupted in their country.

In early November Ethiopian prime minister Abiy Ahmed launched a military offensive against forces of the Tigray People’s Liberation Front in the northern Ethiopian region of Tigray.

However the senior UN official has urged the international community to help Sudan to meet the needs of increasing refugees adding 150 million dollar are urgently needed .

More than 40,000 people have arrived in Sudan since the violence started on November 4, while the UN estimates the number could go up to 200,000 in the next six months.

The UN has called on the parties to the conflict to give “clear and unambiguous orders” to their forces not to target civilians, and protect them from assault. International concerns are growing day by day as more people are displaced by the war with no end in sight to the conflict.
