Very early in the morning, many members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria embarked on the symbolic trek around some major streets of Suleja town.
This gathering is coming at the end of the forty-day mourning period following the Ashura, which is the commemoration of the martyrdom of Imam Hussein, the third Shia Imam. The mourners trekked and chanted condemnation for the murder of Imam Hussein and many of his loyal companions.
Members of the Islamic Movement said this morning is used by Muslims and non-Muslims alike to condemn all acts of injustice anywhere in the world. They narrowed it down to Nigeria where their leader, Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky and his wife Zeenat have remained in detention despite the ruling of a federal Judge ordering for their release.
Members of the Islamic movement said the fight for injustice is never ending. The Arbaeen symbolic trek has been described as a powerful display of solidarity by Shia Muslims all over the world. Many people believe that Imam Hussein transcends all cultural boundaries and is a symbol of universal freedom and compassion.
