A senior adviser to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei says US-sponsored schemes against Palestinians have failed to help Israel dominate the region, and that years of anti-Israel resistance have weakened the occupation force.
“Fifty years of resistance in Palestine and Lebanon and 20 years of direct struggle against the Zionist regime, which had dreams of ruling over regions from the Nile to the Euphrates, have made the Zionist regime beleaguered inside the separation walls [it has built], like a spider entangled in its own web,” Ali Akbar Velayati said on Tuesday.
Velayati, who is also secretary general of the World Assembly of Islamic Awakening, made the remarks in a follow-up session of the Supreme Council of the World Assembly of Islamic Awakening, which was held via videoconference at the central office of the Tasnim News Agency in Tehran.
He described resistance as the only option for liberating Palestine and thwarting American and Israeli plots.
Velyati said that the concept of resistance that was created after the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran has defeated the “schemes of the arrogance” and has resulted in “Muslim unity” across the globe.
Resistance, he said, has brought about the defeat of the plots hatched by the US and its allies, including the Greater Middle East initiative, thwarted their proxy wars, and resulted in the failure of the Zionist regime’s military action against the Palestinian people’s Intifada.
He highlighted the failure of US President Donald Trump’s anti-Palestine Middle East scheme and Washington’s subsequent attempts to cover up its defeats in the region, saying the US and Israel are trying to deceive the public opinion through announcing normalization between the Zionist regime and a number of regional Arab states.
“The puzzle of treason against Palestine and betraying the cause of Palestine will ultimately result in the domino of fall …of the puppet rulers” in the region, as awakened and freedom-seeking nations will stand against the reactionary regional regimes with prudence and insight, he said.
Israel, US ‘number-one’ enemies of Muslims
Addressing the virtual meeting, Bahrain’s most prominent Shia cleric Ayatollah Sheikh Isa Qassim described the US and Israel as “number-one” enemies of the Muslim world, saying compromise amounts to “separation from the Muslim Ummah.”
“Israel is the main enemy of the Muslim Ummah. It has been committing acts of aggression and crimes against the Muslim nation of Palestine for many years and has displaced them (Palestinians),” he said.
The cleric denounced the recent normalization attempts by some Arab countries as “stabbing a dagger in the back of the Muslim Ummah,” saying the Arab rulers are thus complicit in Israeli crimes against Palestinians.
“Any establishment of relations with the Zionist regime will create insecurity and instability in the region, and this will be in the interest of the Zionists and the United States,” he said.
Earlier this month, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain signed US-mediated deals to normalize their relations with Israel.
Palestinians, who seek an independent state in the occupied West Bank and Gaza, with East Jerusalem al-Quds as its capital view the deals as betrayal of their cause
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas protested the normalization deals with Israel, saying they will be fruitless as long as the United States and the Israeli regime do not recognize the rights of the Palestinian nation and refuse to resolve the issue of Palestinian refugees.
