Iranian police arrest suspected serial rapist in Tehran
Iranian police have arrested a suspected serial rapist accused of abusing female students in the capital.
Tehran Police Chief Brigadier General Hossein Rahimi said the man — identified by media as Keyvan Emamverdi — was detained on Tuesday following extensive investigations into the complaints leveled against him on social media.
He is said to have deceived female university students and lured them into his home, where the victims were subjected to harassment, Rahimi said.
“Considering the volume of the complaints and given that public feelings were hurt, extensive investigations were conducted into the case and the suspect was arrested,” he said.
The law enforcement official further called on all victims to file their complaints with the police, reassuring them that their identities would not be revealed.
The arrest was made after similar accounts of sexual abuse circulated on Twitter and other social media platforms.
Several users said an individual had invited them to his house. The man then drugged them unconscious before taking advantage of them.
