In Syria’s Hasakah, SDF militants, backed by US, hinder food delivery
The alliance of the anti-Damascus Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), consisting mainly of Kurdish militants supported by Washington, has impeded the delivery of flour to a bread facility in the northeastern province of Hasakah.
Syria’s official news agency SANA reported on Monday that the delivery had been meant for the Baath bread facility in the city of Qamishli.
The militants keep denying Syrian government trucks, carrying flour and other basic necessities, access to the area, the report said. Over the past few days, the SDF militants have stolen 45 tons of flour from mills in the province.
The security situation is reportedly deteriorating in the areas controlled by the SDF in Hasakah and the province of Dayr al-Zawr as the militants continue arresting civilians.
The White House has long been providing the SDF with arms and militants. Washington says they are a key partner in the purported fight against the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group.
Many observers, however, see the support in the context of Washington’s plans to carve out a foothold in Syria.
Such support has also angered Turkey, which views militants of the People’s Protection Units (YPG), the backbone of the SDF, as a terrorist organization tied to the homegrown Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).
