Five months after the first case of coronavirus was reported in central China, the disease has now found its way to the Yemeni capital Sana’a.

The Yemeni Health ministry has ordered certain procedures to contain the outbreak. The ministry had earlier warned that the country’s health system can only manage to receive 10,000 patients. This prompted the supreme national emergency committee to call for setting up makeshift hospitals to boost the country’s capacity by 3,000 beds.

Experts have warned that Yemen is one of the most vulnerable countries, saying that the lives of thousands of people could be at risk as the country’s healthcare sector has taken a severe hit during the years-long Saudi aggression.

The news of the first case with the coronavirus in the Yemeni capital adds insult to the injuries of millions of war-weary Yemenis.

The situation is concerning, as much-needed testing kits and ventilator units cannot be delivered to health facilities due to the Saudi-led blockade on the Arab country. Five years of Saudi onslaught has left many Yemenis malnourished and prone to infections.
