Japan would 'scrap' Tokyo games if not held in 2021

The Tokyo 2020 president has said the postponed Olympic games would be scrapped if they cannot take place in 2021.

The Olympic games are now scheduled to run from July the 23rd to the 8th of August next year because of the impact of the coronavirus outbreak. With the epidemic's worldwide infection rate climbing, there are speculations that the event might need to be postponed again until 2022.

But Tokyo 2020 president Yoshiro Mori ruled out such a scenario saying "in that case, the Olympics will be scrapped". However, the Tokyo 2020 president said he was confident the rescheduled games would go ahead.
