An earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale has hit Khane Zenian district in the southern Iranian province of Fars.
The tremor occurred at 16:58 hours local time (13:28 GMT) on Monday at a depth of 7 km.
A local official told IRNA that there has been so far no report of the quake's human fatalities, but it killed animals and destroyed houses and cars in the area.

Ayatollah Houshmand added that rescue and assessment teams have been dispatched to the quake site, which is not a very populous area.
Meanwhile, 13 aftershocks measuring between 3 and 3.5 on the Richter scale also hit Khane Zenian.
