On Tuesday night, prominent UK hip hop artists M.I.A and Lowkey appeared in support of Wikileaks front man Julian Assange at a demonstration organized outside the British Home Office in London, joined by a crowd of hundreds, demanding the release of the controversial journalist

Since the 11th of April, Julian Assange has been detained by the UK authorities in the high security Belmarsh prison from where he makes periodic court appearances that have left supporters expressing concern at his apparent deterioration. Assange faces potential extradition to the United States, where he is wanted on charges of espionage.

After 7 years in an embassy and now month after month in British detention, Julian Assange’s condition deteriorates as he awaits a seemingly inevitable fate of extradition to the United States of America. Something that the people here, will not tolerate.

Following his arrest in April, the plight of Assange’s battle to free himself from imprisonment for his journalistic endeavors has stirred mass outrage, sparking international demonstrations advocating for the protection of whistleblowers and journalists who reveal the wrongdoings of their governments to the public.

The demonstration was a sequel to another protest, just months ago, headlined by former Pink Floyd lead singer and world renowned artist Roger Waters. Julian Assange’s father and brother have both appeared during the demonstrations to speak on their loved one's detention.

Julian Assange’s condition is reportedly ever deteriorating and the mainstream media have all but ignored his story and the heavy price he seems destined to pay for what many argue, is simply doing his job as a journalist.
