Palestinians from all walks of life took part in the weekly peaceful rallies of the Great March of Return for the 81st Friday in a row against the Israeli regime in the east of the tiny coastal sliver.
The weekly event once again saw Israeli forces attack demonstrators, using live rounds against them.
Palestinians launched the peaceful rallies in late March 2018 with the aim to draw international attention to the plight of millions of Palestinian refugees and to demand the complete lifting of the Israeli blockade.
Since the beginning of the rallies, Israeli forces have killed hundreds of protesters and injured thousands more.
This week’s rallies coincided with the anniversary of the Balfour Declaration.
Protesters condemned the Israeli occupation of their lands. They also marked one-hundred and two years since the Balfour Declaration, a document that led to Israel’s creation.
In November 1917, then British Foreign Secretary Arthur James Balfour issued his infamous Declaration giving Zionist settlers the permission to occupy Palestinian territories.
The Balfour Declaration is considered by Palestinians as the root cause of their suffering under the Israeli occupation and they continue to blame Britain for their plight over the past decades.
Human rights organizations have slammed the international community for failing to hold Israel accountable for its crimes against Palestinians. They say such inaction has emboldened Israel to expand its anti-Palestinian policies.
