The Secretary-General of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad resistance movement, Ziad al-Nakhala, has stressed the need for resistance and reconciliation among Palestinian factions to counter US President Donald Trump’s controversial proposal for “peace” between the Israeli regime and Palestinians, dubbed “the deal of the century.”
Addressing the Palestinian National Conference in Gaza City on Tuesday evening, Nakhala said the Palestinian nation will remain united in the face of the much-touted American plan, spearheaded by Trump’s son-in-law and senior advisor Jared Kushner.
“Today, we have a historic opportunity to re-establish our calculations and open up prospects for our people and our future generations. This Zionist project … must be dealt with. This poison which the West has injected into the body of the Palestinian nation must not be given the chance to spread as it will kill us, all Arabs and Muslims. Those who know what al-Quds (Jerusalem) and Palestine mean, know that this region is valued not only in size but also in essence,” he pointed out.
Nakhala further highlighted that Palestinians must stay on the path of resistance and armed struggle, hold a national workshop with the participation of delegates from all factions, rehabilitate the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) if they want it to be the legitimate and sole representative of the Palestinian nation and withdraw recognition of Israel in order to confront Israel and its continued aggression.
“Bahrain workshop conference of conspiracy”
Meanwhile, Vice Speaker of the Palestinian Legislative Council, Ahmed Bahar, has described the Bahrain economic workshop as the conference of conspiracy and sedition.
Bahar said in a statement that the Bahrain meeting “constitutes a political, moral and humanitarian crime.”
He then called on the participating Arab states to respect the Palestinian people’s national rights and not to join the racist US administration’s attempts aimed at harming the Palestinian constants.
The Arab territories should not be places for sedition and conspiracy against the Palestinian cause, and for plots aimed at liquidating the Palestinian cause, the senior lawmaker said.
The so-called "Peace to Prosperity" workshop opened in Bahrain on June 25 and will run through June 26.
The Palestinian leadership is boycotting the meeting, leading critics to question the credibility of the event.
The Palestinian Bar Association (PBA) plans to file a lawsuit against participants in the US-led conference in Manama.
