Nakba Day: Palestinians are rising
On May 15th each year, Palestinians and freedom-loving people all over the world hold rallies to commemorate what has come be known as the Nakba Day or the Day of Catastrophe.
Back in 1948, when Israel declared its existence, some 700,000 Palestinians were driven out of their homes and scattered across refugee camps in the occupied West Bank, the Gaza Strip and neighboring countries.
Today, more than seven million Palestinian refugees are living in exile, while 1.8 million Palestinians are living in the world's largest open-air prison in the Gaza Strip.
This year, the Nakba Day has a special significance. Palestinians from the Gaza Strip have been protesting for months in what has been described as the Great March of Return.
