In Group E’s tense showdown, Qatar have overpowered Saudi Arabia 2-0 to sit at the top of the table with full points.

With 40 minutes into the match, Qatar found a great chance to take the lead on a penalty kick, but Saudi keeper, Mohammed Al-Owais, saved the threat.

A few minutes later, Almoez Ali delivered a surgical finish to put the Qatari side in front. Saudi defensive flops gave the unmarked Ali the opportunity to score his second goal on a set-piece, sealing the victory for the 2022 World Cup hosts.

Saudi Arabia will have to line up against Japan on Sunday, while Qatar will lock horns with Iraq on Tuesday, in the round of 16.
