Controversies about FATF regulations in Iran

Iran's parliament approved the four FATF bills proposed by the administration and now it is up to the Guardian Council to decide if Iran will join it.

When it comes to the FATF, Iranian government officials and politicians have opposing ideas as some of them, mostly Principlists, believe that this convention will bring Iran nothing but more limitations and harder sanctions.

On the other hand, some others think that Iran has to join the FATF because it is the only path to having economic relations with the world. Critics of the FATF say refer to a key word embedded in the FATF, that is terrorism, and argue that if Iran accepts its conditions it will have to stop supporting Hezbollah and other resistance movements which are legally defending their countries against the occupations of their enemies.

Iran does not agree with US's definition of terrorism. They call any movement or groups that act against their interests as a terrorist. Americans created Daesh, Taliban and many other terrorist groups. If Iran joins the FATF, it must stop helping groups like Hezbollah and even take action against its IRGC if the UNSC, under US pressures, considers them as terrorists.
