Trump is more warmongering than predecessors: Analyst

US President Donald Trump is clearly more of a warmonger compared to his previous predecessors and the faster he is removed from office, the safer the world would be, an investigative journalist in Washington says.

Wayne Madsen, an author and columnist specializing in intelligence and international affairs told Press TV on Tuesday that Trump’s constant claims that he does not want to engage in past US military forays is far from accurate and that he is much more prone to war than former US presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama.

“He’s been doubling down on China, he claims without any proof that China was somehow responsible for Kim Jong-un of North Korea not following through with some agreement that Trump said they made in Singapore. He is blaming China for that. He is ratcheting up tensions in the Taiwan strait with these navy maneuvers,” Madsen said.

Increasing tensions with China

Amid increasing trade tensions with China, the US has confirmed its destroyers have recently sailed through the Taiwan Strait.

According to a statement released by Taiwan’s Defense Ministry on Saturday, the two American warships were sailing in a northeastern direction on Friday night.

China and Taiwan separated during a civil war in 1949, and Beijing pursues reunification ever since, and Chinese officials have never renounced the use of force to bring under China’s control what it sees as a wayward province.

The passage of the two American warships, reportedly Mustin and Benfold, is likely be perceived in Taiwan as a sign of support by US President Donald Trump amid escalating trade tension with China. It also followed a string of Chinese military drills around the island state that have stoked tensions between Taipei and Beijing.

The last time a US aircraft carrier passed through the strait was in 2007, during the administration of then President George W. Bush, and some American military officials believe a carrier transit is overdue.
