Iranian karate practitioners have demonstrated awe-inspiring displays at the qualification tournament for the Buenos Aires 2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games, and won tickets for the forthcoming international sports, cultural, and educational event.
On Saturday, Fatemeh Khonakdar managed to overcome her Italian, Kazakh, Macedonian, Lithuanian and German opponents to cruise into the final content of women’s minus 53-kilogram category, where she beat a representative from Uzbekistan 3-1 to receive the gold medal.
Alireza Faraji defeated Pedro Pablo de la Roca from Guatemala 1-0 in the last showdown of men’s minus 61-kilogram and picked the second gold medal for the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Navid Mohammadi also overpowered a British rival in the semi-final round of men’s over 68-kilogram section 6-3, and found a place in the Buenos Aires 2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games.
He, however, narrowly lost to an athlete from Morocco 2-3 in his last contest and got the silver medal.
Earlier in the tournament, Mobina Haydari grabbed a silver medal in women’s minus 59-kilogram category, winning the first position for Iran in the Youth Olympics.
The qualification tournament for the Buenos Aires 2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games kicked off in the Croatian city of Umag on June 29, and finished the following day.
