Iranian chess grandmaster Ehsan Ghaem Maghami has featured great mental skills at the Nakhchivan Open 2018 in Azerbaijan, and stood on top of the podium in the international tournament.
On Sunday and in the ninth round of the blitz section of the competitions held at the Nakhchivan Chess Center in Nakhchivan, the 35-year-old Iranian sportsman came first with the overall score of 7 out of 9.
Ukrainian chess grandmaster and the 2013 European Blitz Chess Champion, Anton Korobov, finished second and snatched the silver medal.
International master Yevgeniy Pak from Kazakhstan sat in the third slot.
The Nakhchivan Open 2018, dedicated to the memory of former Azerbaijani President Heydar Aliyev, opened on May 1 and runs through May 11, 2018.
The tournament is organized by the Azerbaijan Youth & Sport Ministry, the Azerbaijan Chess Federation and Nakhchivan AR Chess Federation.
The first prize is US $5,000 dollars. Players receive 90 minutes for 40 moves, then 30 minutes for the rest of the game plus 30 seconds per move, starting from move one.
