The national Iranian men's beach soccer team has kept its position as the best Asian squad in the latest edition of the Beach Soccer Worldwide (BSWW) rankings, and stayed put in the world’s third spot.
According to the latest monthly rankings released by the BSWW, the organization responsible for the founding and growth of beach soccer, Team Melli Football Saheli accumulated 3,103 points.
Japan occupied the second place in Asia and sat in the ninth slot in the global rankings with 1,434 points.
The Japanese squad was followed by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Oman teams, who landed in the 10th and 16th spots respectively, having gained 1,327 and 906 points.
The 2017 Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) Beach Soccer World Cup champion Brazil stood on the top of the rankings with 4,370 points.
Portugal collected 3,449 points to claim second position. Fourth-placed Russians tallied 2,695 points. Italy stood fifth, having notched up 2,531 points.
On January 29, the Iran men’s national beach soccer team robustly ended its campaign at the second edition of Persian Beach Soccer Cup in the southern Iranian port city of Bushehr, and whole-heartedly defended its title as the champion of the international tournament.
The Iranian squad saw off the spirited Spain national beach soccer team, nicknamed La Furia Roja (The Red Fury) or Los Hispanos (The Hispanos), 4-2 in the final showdown at Bushehr Tourism Village.
Forward player Moslem Mesigar scored a hat trick for Iran, while Mohammad Ahmadzadeh was on target just once.
Earlier in the day, the Ukraine and Azerbaijan national beach soccer teams took on each other in the third-place playoff. Ukrainians defeat their opponents in the final minute of the match and clinched a thrilling 4-3 win.
The second edition of the Persian Beach Soccer Cup kicked off on January 27, and ran through January 29, 2018.
The international sports event brought together national beach soccer teams from Azerbaijan, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Spain and Ukraine.
