Iranian footballer Mehdi Taremi has signed with al-Gharafa Football Club, which currently competes in the highest professional league in Qatari football known as the Qatar Stars League.
The 35-year-old forward officially joined the al-Rayyan-based club on a one-and-half-year contract and for a fee of 2.5 million dollars on Friday.
Taremi has become the top scorer of the highest level of the Iranian football league system, known as the Persian Gulf Pro League, on two occasions (2015–16 and 2016–17).
He has been a member of the Iran national football team, domestically known as Team Melli, since 2015.
Taremi is serving a four-month ban from late September, after he was locked in a contract dispute with Turkish club Çaykur Rizespor, when the player reached an agreement to join the club and later returned to Persepolis.
The Iranian football player can play from January 21. He had earlier been linked with move to a number of Greek teams, namely Olympiakos, Panathinaikos, PAOK, AEK and Panionios.
