WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange was granted an Ecuadorian identity card which is required for receiving the country's citizenship, according to reports of the country's media.

The information appeared after Assange published a photo of himself on Twitter wearing a national Ecuadorian football shirt. Footage shows the exterior of the Ecuadorian Embassy in London where Assange remains holed up.

Assange has been residing in the Ecuadorean embassy in London since 2012, with British police waiting outside, ready to arrest the WikiLeaks founder for breaking his 2012 bail conditions.
