FIFA invites Iran’s Faghani to 2nd seminar for 2018 World Cup

The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) has officially invited Iranian football referee Alireza Faghani to the second Referee Seminar for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, which is scheduled to be held in Qatar early next year.

Head of the Referees Committee at the Football Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Fereydoun Esfahanian, said the international governing body of association football, futsal, and beach soccer had sent out an invitation to 39-year-old Faghani.

The second Referee Seminar for the 2018 FIFA World Cup will kick off in the Qatari capital city of Doha on February 5, and will come to close on February 9, 2018.

Faghani attended the first Referee Seminar for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, which ran between April 3 and 7 in the central Italian city of Florence. A total of 53 referees from across the world took part in the five-day seminar.

Faghani is among the six Asian referees, who have been chosen to officiate at the quadrennial international football tournament contested by the men's national teams of the member associations of FIFA.

FIFA has selected 36 referees from 34 countries to officiate football matches at the 2018 World Cup.

On July 8, Faghani received the Golden Whistle prize for laudably performing official duties during the 16th edition of the Persian Gulf Pro League, formerly known as Iran Pro League (IPL).

He has been officiating in Persian Gulf Pro League for seven seasons and has been on the international list since 2008.
