Iranian Muaythai boxers have put on satisfactory performances at the first edition of Eurasian Muaythai Clubs Cup in Azerbaijan, and clinched 11 medals, including three precious gold ones, to claim the third place overall at the competitions.
The Iranian team secured three gold medals through Mehdi Ghoreishvandi, Mahdieh Naderi and Masoumeh Tajik, the Martial Arts Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran reported.
Mohammad Jahangiri, Seyyedeh Sahar Mousavi, Parmida Hashemi, Roghayeh Emami and Roghayeh Mikaeili could add five silvers to Iran’s medal tally.
Additionally, Mohammed Saeed Ghafourian, Mohammed Reza Khakrand and Ali Aminzadeh settled for a bronze medal each.
Athletes from the host nation were crowned as the champion of the international sports event. They were followed by Kazakhs in the second place.
The Iranian and Turkish Muaythai boxers shared the third place.
The first edition of Eurasian Muaythai Clubs Cup opened in the Azerbaijani capital city of Baku on December 15, and finished on December 17, 2017.
Muaythai is a combat sport of Thailand, which uses stand-up striking along with various clinching techniques.
It includes combat on shins and is known as “the art of eight limbs.”
Muaythai is characterized by the combined use of fists, elbows, knees, shins, being associated with a good physical preparation that makes a full-contact fighter very efficient.
