Iranian male and female Muaythai boxers have exhibited great performances and pocketed a total of 14 medals at the International Federation of Muaythai Amateur (IFMA) World Cup in Russia.
On Saturday, Muaythai boxer Mikaeel Amiri took on a contestant from Russia in the final bout of male junior minus 67-kilogram weight division in the southwest Russian city of Kazan, and conceded defeat to get the silver medal.
Earlier, Sajjad Sattarnejad, another Iranian Muaythai boxer, fell to his Turkish opponent in the final fight of male junior minus 57 kilogram class, and grabbed the silver medal.
Arash Delikhoun and Seyyed Mohammad Reza Ansari also scooped silver medals in the male junior minus 60-kilogram and minus 71-kilogram sections, respectively. Jamal Madani settled for the bronze in the men’s minus 57-kilogram category.
The achievements came after Iran’s Mehrdad Sayyadi, Kaveh Soleimani, Hossein Nasiri and Mohammad Ghaedi defeated their rivals in the men’s minus 63.5-kilogram, minus 67-kilogram, minus 51-kilogram and minus 75-kilogram sections, and stood on the bronze podium.
Additionally, Fatemeh Yavari and Saeedeh Ghaffari were awarded a bronze medal each in the female junior minus 51-kilogram and minus 60-kilogram classes.
Amir Hossein Akbari, Ali Mehrabi and Mehdi Sham’i also collected a bronze medal each in the male junior minus 54-kilogram, minus 63.5-kilogram and minus 81-kilogram weight divisions.
The IFMA World Cup opened in Kazan, Russia, on November 21, and will conclude on November 27, 2016.
A total of 280 athletes from 35 countries are competing in 11 weight divisions over to book their spot for the 2017 World Games.
