The Iranian men’s national five-a-side football team has obtained its second deserved victory at the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) Football 5-a-side Asian Championships 2017 in Malaysia, beating the defending champion.
On Wednesday, the Iranian visually-challenged sportsmen started the Pool B match at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur, in a better fashion, and threatened the opposite side’s goalpost on a number of occasions.
The Iranian five-a-side football team managed to overcome the hosts 2-0 at last.
Behzad Zadali Asghari and Sadegh Rahimi scored Iran’s goals.
Earlier, the Iranian para footballers had eased past their South Korean opponents 3-0 in their opening fixture.
The IBSA Football 5-a-side Asian Championships 2017 kicked off on December 9, and will conclude on December 18.
The participating teams are seeking to clinch the title, and book a slot at next year's World Championships in Madrid, Spain.
Five-a-side football includes a smaller pitch, smaller goals, and a reduced game duration. The penalty area is semi-circular in shape. There are no offside rules and headers are not allowed. Players are also required to wear shin guards but this is usually at the discretion of the referee.
