Hariri’s resignation part of Saudi miscalculations in Mideast: Analyst

An analyst believes Saudi Arabia has put a lot of pressure on Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri to resign, adding that his resignation is part of Riyadh’s miscalculations in the Middle East.

“I think there has been a lot of miscalculations [by] the Saudi in the region from the war in Yemen, from the sanctions that they imposed on Qatar, from their escalation with Iranians, from the involvement in Syria, from other involvements in the region. This is part of the miscalculation [by] the Saudis getting involved directly with ultimate orders to the Lebanese prime minister,” Kamel Wazne told PressTV in an interview on Saturday.

He also noted there seems to be some conspiracy going on against Lebanon, arguing that Hariri’s resignation is by all means a coup which will put the country’s stability at a crossroads.

Hariri announced his resignation in a speech broadcast from Saudi Arabia. He cited many reasons, including the security situation in Lebanon, for his sudden decision.

The analyst added that the next 72 hours are going to be “very telling” for Lebanon, arguing that the issue is not the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah but rather the shape of the Middle East.
