The Iran men’s national beach soccer team has pulled off its second win at the Huawei Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup Dubai 2017 in the United Arab Emirates, outclassing the Mexican side in its second fixture at the preliminary round of the tournament.
On Wednesday evening, Team Melli Saheli powered to a 4-1 triumph over El Tricolor (The Tricolor) in a Group B match played at Business Bay in Dubai.
It took Iran just 16 minutes to grab a 1-0 lead through a strike by forward and Captain Mohammad Ahmadzadeh.
Iran was then dealt a blow when Amir Hossein Akbari scored an own goal in the 23rd minute.
The Persians doubled their advantage seven minutes later, when Moslem Mesigar’s confident strike of the ball went into the back of the net.
Team Melli Saheli cherished their fervent hopes later on through Akbari’s finish into the bottom corner in the 35th minute.
Ali Mirshekari found the net a minute later, and scored Iran’s fourth of the match.
Emirati referee Ebrahim al-Raeesi disallowed Iran’s fifth goal, when Mohammad Moradi netted seconds after the end of the playing time.
The Iran men’s national beach soccer team will play Russia in its third preliminary round fixture on Thursday.
The 2017 Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) Beach Soccer World Cup champion Brazil, Egypt, Portugal and the UAE form Group A.
Team Melli Saheli has joined squads from Mexico, Paraguay and Russia in Group B.
The Huawei Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup Dubai 2017 started on October 31, and will finish on November 4.
The tournament is being played as a round-robin in group stage, after which the top two teams will qualify for the semi-final round.
The semi-finals will be played between the winner of Group A against the Group B runner-up and vice versa.
