Warmongers worried by Iran’s abidance by JCPOA: Zarif

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif says warmongering powers are concerned about the Islamic Republic’s abidance by the landmark 2015 nuclear agreement between Iran and the P5+1 group of countries.

“Warmongers confess they’re more worried that we abide by [the] JCPOA (the nuclear agreement, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action) than violate it”, Zarif said on his official Twitter account on Tuesday.

“No spin will mask this,” he added.

The top Iranian diplomat urged the United States to follow suit and “try to comply” with the historic international nuclear deal.

The US president on October 13 refused to formally certify that Iran was complying with the 2015 nuclear deal, reached between Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany in 2015, and warned that he might ultimately terminate the agreement.

While Trump did not pull Washington out of the JCPOA, he gave the US Congress 60 days to decide whether to reimpose economic sanctions against Tehran that were lifted under the pact. Reimposing sanctions would put the US at odds with other signatories to the accord and the European Union.

European Union foreign ministers on Monday reaffirmed their support for the historic nuclear agreement, saying the accord is working and is a key part of non-proliferation efforts.

The top EU diplomats urged US lawmakers not to reimpose sanctions on Tehran and warned against the serious consequences for regional peace of a failure to maintain the international agreement backed by the UN Security Council.
