The Iranian women's team has put a commendable end to its campaign at the 2017 Asian Youth Olympic Games Qualification Regatta & Asian Rowing Junior Championships, and ranked third at the end of the high-status continental event.
On Saturday, the Iranian team, consisting of Asra Javanmardi, Kimia Zare’ei, Forough Aghabalazadeh and Fatemeh Safari, participated in women’s team quad sculls contests at the Singapore Rowing Association Training Center, and finished third to pick up a bronze medal.
In the men’s double scull showdown, the Iranian pair of Reza Ghahremani and Milad Allahverdian landed in the top slot and grabbed a gold medal.
Representatives from Japan finished as the vice champion and pocketed the silver medal, while athletes from India took away the bronze.
Iranian female rower Haniyeh Bidad also collected the bronze medal in the single scull, and got a quota spot in the Youth Olympic Games.
Later in the tournament, the Iranian team, comprised of Reza Ghahremani, Shirzad Ghaderi, Karou Hosseini and Milad Allahverdian, came third in the men’s quad scull event, and clinched the bronze medal.
Uzbek rowers finished first and struck the yellow medal, while Chinese athletes received the silver.
The 2017 Asian Youth Olympic Games Qualification Regatta & 2017 Asian Rowing Junior Championships started in Singapore on October 11, and finished on October 14, 2017.
The event brought together dozens of male and female rowers from various Asian countries, including China, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Japan, Singapore, Thailand and Uzbekistan.
