Baghdad launches operation to Liberate Hawijah

It remains to be seen if the simmering tensions between Erbil and Baghdad over an upcoming Kurdish independence referendum will affect the battle to liberate the district of Hawija. Some believe there’s a deepening mistrust which could inhibit the much-needed cooperation between the Iraqi forces and the Kurdish Peshmerga in this battle.
