Ivanka Trump’s visit to the Oval Office of the White House during a meeting between her father and the Republican leaders “visibly annoyed” the GOPers, an aide says.
Ivanka paid a visit to the office during a Wednesday meeting to “say hello” to President Donald Trump.
Congressional Republicans and Democrats were meeting with the president to increase the debt ceiling, prevent a government shutdown and pass a spending package to aid the victims of Hurricane Harvey, which recently hit the Gulf coast of the United States.
Trump sides with Democrats
Trump reached a deal with the Democratic leaders to fund the government and raise the debt ceiling through December 15.
"We essentially came to a deal, and I think the deal will be very good," he told reporters aboard Air Force One. "So we have an extension, which will go out to December 15th. That will include the debt ceiling, that will include the CRs, and it will include Harvey."
The deal was initially announced by Democrats, Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.
The agreement has upset some of the Republicans although Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell threw his support behind the deal, saying, "I will be adding that as an amendment to the [House] flood relief bill.”
Nebraska Republican Senator Ben Sasse was one of them, saying in a tweet that "The Pelosi-Schumer-Trump deal is bad."
The idea of adding a three-month extension of the debt ceiling to Harvey aid had also been called “ridiculous” by Republican-controlled House Speaker Paul Ryan.
He also accused the Democrats of attempting to “play politics with the debt ceiling.”
