The Iranian men’s national basketball team has moved past Lebanon at the 2017 Fédération Internationale de Basket-ball (FIBA) Asia Cup in Lebanon, and progressed to the semifinal round of the continental tournament.
On Wednesday, the Iranian team defeated the host outfit 80–70 (18–12, 19–19, 19–13 and 24–26) in a quarterfinal match played at Nouhad Nawfal Stadium in Zouk Mosbeh town, located 12 kilometers north of the Lebanese capital city of Beirut.
Iranian professional basketball player Mohammad Jamshidi Jafarabadi, who last played for the Meralco Bolts in the Philippine Basketball Association, had 24 points whilst only missing four shots to help Iran to the victory. Hamed Haddadi also scored 20 points.
Wael Arakji had 24 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists for Lebanon.
The Iranian men’s national basketball team will play South Korea in a FIBA Asia Cup semifinal showdown on August 19.
The 2017 FIBA Asia Cup, which is the 29th edition of the continental basketball championship in Asia, started in Lebanon on August 8 and will conclude on August 20.
