Iran cadet national Greco-Roman wrestling A team has exhibited impressive performances at the 2017 Yadegar Imam Cup international cadet wrestling tournament hosted by the Islamic Republic, and lifted the trophy at the end of the event.
On Friday evening, the young Iranian wrestlers sent the spectators at the 2,000-seater hall of Shahid Heidarian Arena in the north-central city of Qom into jubilation, as they overwhelmed their Azerbaijani counterparts 7-3 in their final meetings.
Azerbaijan’s Gurban Gurbanov prevailed over Iranian Greco-Roman wrestler Sajjad Abbaspour 2-1 in the 42-kilogram weight category.
Hasrat Jafarov conceded a 1-3 defeat to Iran’s Iman Mohammadi in the 46-kilogram weight division.
Iranian competitor Amir Hossein Khansari lost to Zaur Aliyev 1-5 in the 50-kilogram weight class.
Additionally, Omid Arami defeated his Azerbaijani opponent Asgar Alizade 8-0 in the 54-kilogram category.
In the 58-kilogram class, Azerbaijan’s Hasan Mohammedli outmuscled Iranian rival Abbas Chenani 12-2.
Later, Mohammad Naghousi of Iran overcame Azerbaijani wrestler Vafadar Jafarov 11-2 in the 63-kilogram class.
Iran’s Mohammad Mehdi Hadavand, Mohammad Mehdi Khoshbakht, Hamed Abdevali and Vahid Dadkhah were successful in their Herculean tasks to prevail opponents in the 69-kilogram, 76-kilogram, 85-kilogram and 100-kilogram sections.
Turkey finished in the third place after defeating Armenia in the bronze-medal playoff that ended 6-4.
Iran’s cadet Greco-Roman wrestling B team ended in the fifth place after downing Iran Tose’h 6-4, and Iran’s C team stood seventh after emerging victorious from its match with Tajikistan 8-2.
