Iranian freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestlers have been awarded three more medals, including one gold, at the Tbilisi Grand Prix of V. Balavadze & G. Kartozia to lift the country’s medal count to six at the multinational sports event.
On Sunday, Iranian freestyle wrestler Jamal Ebadi snatched the gold medal for the Islamic Republic in the 70-kilogram weight division after he managed to overcome a representative from the host nation.
Later in the tournament, Amir Reza Amiri overcame over his Armenian opponent in his first contest of the 125-kilogram weight class.
He, however, lost to a contestant from Hungary in the next round, and had to feature in the repechage round. The Iranian wrestler then defeated a rival from Poland and won the bronze.
Moreover, Greco-Roman wrestler Saman Azizi overcame his Georgian opponent in the classification round, and picked up a bronze medal in the 85-kilogram category.
The Tbilisi Grand Prix of V. Balavadze & G. Kartozia opened in Georgia on June 10, and concluded the next day.
