US President Donald Trump’s disclosure of highly classified information regarding the Daesh terrorist group with Russian diplomats has caused a lot of controversy. However, Trump has defended the move, asserting that as commander in chief, he has the “absolute right” to do so. Press TV has talked to former US diplomat Michael Springmann as well as The Hill columnist Brent Budowsky to get their opinion on this issue.

Michael Springmann believes that the president of the United States is the “highest classification authority” in the government, and therefore has the “legitimate authority” to classify or declassify information by his executive orders.

“So this is making a mountain out of a molehill. It is a smokescreen because the American government officials and the news media do not know what they are talking about and how they are very out of touch with reality,” he stated.

The analyst also stressed what is being concealed in the controversial report on Trump's intelligence disclosure to Russia is Israel’s ties with the Daesh terrorists in the Middle East, given the fact that Tel Aviv was the source of information.

He went on to say that Israel is the “problem" in the region, adding that the Israelis are supporting the terrorists behind the scenes, because it helps implement the Oded Yinon Plan for the Middle East.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Springmann noted that the United States should give Russia whatever useful information it has to help Moscow fight Daesh, “because the Russians are in the frontlines killing more terrorists than the Americans are.”

The analyst further denounced accusations against Russia interfering in other countries’ elections as “absolute nonsense,” asserting that these allegations “are cooked up by people who want to keep the Cold War going.”

Meanwhile, Brent Budowsky, the other panelist on the program, opined that revealing highly classified information to a foreign country is a “big issue,” predicting that this move will get Trump into more trouble.

He further maintained that there are many people in the Trump administration who are leaking a lot of information for unknown reasons, arguing that the report on Trump's intelligence disclosure to Russia has nothing to do with covering up any Israeli alleged role in supporting terrorists.

According to the analyst, Trump is going to face a very big problem with regard to his relationship with Russia and if he is “too friendly” to Moscow, “he will pay a political price.”
