The national Iranian volleyball team has gained a hard-earned win at the classification round of the 2017 Asian Men's U23 Volleyball Championship currently being staged in the northwestern Iranian city of Ardabil, overcoming the Malaysian outfit.
The Iranian squad defeated Malaysia 3-1 (23-25, 25-20, 25-19 and 25-21) in a fairly spirited encounter at Hossein Rezazadeh Hall on Thursday evening.
Malaysian volleyball players got off to a fine start, and took an early lead over the Persians. The Southeast Asians availed themselves of Iranian counterparts’ individual mistakes to notch up points.
The Malaysians sportsmen maintained the lead with emphatic spikes and good defense, and eventually took the first set 25-23.
The national Iranian volleyball squad put right their mistakes in the second set to surge ahead. They finally claimed the set 25-20.
The Iranian volleyball players kept the momentum as the match extended into the third set, and ultimately closed it at 25-19.
The Malaysians battled to bounce back in the fourth set, but were repulsed by the Iranians. Iran took the set 25-21 at last and clinched the match.
The 2017 Asian Men's U23 Volleyball Championship kicked off in Ardabil, Iran, on May 1 and will run through May 9, 2017.
