Former US First Lady Michelle Obama has stated that she would stay away from political office in the future. This is her first public appearance since the Obamas left the White House in late January.
Speaking at the America Institute of Architecture convention in Orlando, Florida, she said that being in the White House had been tough on her family and she would never wish for her children to have to tolerate such hardships again, media reported on Friday.
"It's good to get out of the [White] House," she said, adding, “It's good to not have the weight of the world upon your shoulders."
The image projected by the White House is negative and people [white racists] "thought I was the devil," she said.
Since leaving office more than three months ago, former President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama, who currently live in Washington, have steered clear of politics and a barrage of accusations issued by the Trump administration.
The Obamas spent nearly 100 days relaxing at various locations around the world.
The two were last seen earlier this month on a yacht off the island of Mo'orea in the South Pacific.
Barack Obama, however, is scheduled to address a healthcare conference in September in one of his first public appearances since leaving office.
The organizers have agreed to pay him a huge amount of money.
This is not the first time a US president is to make big bucks from lectures.
Former President Bill Clinton, and his wife, former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, had made $153 million off paid speeches from 2001 to 2015, according to reports.
On average, the couple received about $211,000, per speech.
Meantime, the Obamas are also busy compiling their memoirs for a book. This, too, could yield tens of millions of dollars for the family.
Obama plans to build a library and community center for a foundation under his name in Chicago, Illinois, where he used to be a senator.
