The Iranian men’s national beach volleyball A team has claimed the top position at the conclusion of the 2017 Asian Senior Beach Volleyball Championships in Thailand, after trouncing the Indonesian squad in the title challenge.

On Monday evening, the Iranian pair of Bahman Salemi and Rahman Raoufi immersed beach volleyball enthusiasts at Samila Beach in Thailand’s southern city of Songkhla into tremendous admiration, as they overcame Indonesians Ade Candra Rachmawan and Mohammad Ashfiya.

The Iranian players began the title clash in a better fashion, and slammed fine spikes and blocked the ball well to grab the first set 22-20.

The Indonesian pair then managed to gain the lead, and took up the available opportunities to surge ahead and finished the second set 21-12.

The Persians began the third set energetically, and kept on earning points. They ultimately pulled out a 15-12 victory.

“First, I would like to thank Thai people for the great hospitality and support. This tournament is one of the best events in Asian Tour and Asian Championships as well. I really enjoyed playing here,” Raoufi said after the final match.

He added, “This match was very important for us because it was the gold-medal match. I think we prepared well for this match. We tried to keep our brain fresh and stay focused in every point because our opponents were very strong. We just wanted to fight until the last point and we are very happy to win the Asian title here. We look forward to coming back next year.”

The 2017 Asian Senior Beach Volleyball Championships kicked off in Thailand on April 14, and finished on April 17, 2017.
