The Iranian men’s national futsal team has put a satisfactory end to its campaign at the fifth edition of International Sports Federation for Persons with Intellectual Disability (INAS) World Futsal Championships in Portugal, and ranked third at the end of the international event.
On Friday and the final day of the tournament at Vila Nova de Gaia in the central Portuguese city of Viseu, the Iranian team defeated the Russian squad 7-3 in the third-place play-off.
Portugal also notched up a narrow 4-3 victory over France in the title game, and finished as the champion.
The result came a day after the Iranian team went down to a 4-6 defeat against the French squad in a semifinal encounter.
The Iranians were held to a three-all draw against the Portuguese team on Wednesday, and found a place in the semifinal round of the tournament.
The Iranian futsal team had downed Argentina 6-3, and routed South Africa 6-3 in its first two preliminary round games.
The fifth edition of INAS World Futsal Championships started in Viseu, Portugal, on April 8, and finished on April 15, 2017.
The Iranian men’s national futsal team comprised Mohammad Reza Takhsha, Ali Makhtout, Behzad Amani, Mohsen Dolati, Nosrat Kasheffar, Qodrat Kasheffar, Ali Asghar Hosseinzadeh, Mehdi Molayari, Hamid Reza Mohsen Saboktakin, Qader Al-e-Nasser and Abdulali Barihi.
