US imperialism supporting Israeli expansionism: Author

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has announced that Israel’s demolition campaign against Palestinian homes and structures across the West Bank and East Jerusalem al-Quds had reached the most unprecedented level in the past seven years. It also said Israel has imposed restrictions on Palestinian movement between the besieged Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank. The UN Security Council recently passed with 14 votes for and one abstention a landmark motion that called Israeli settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem al-Quds a flagrant violation of international law.

Ralph Schoenman, author of The Hidden History of Zionism from Berkeley, says the Tel Aviv regime continues to usurp Palestinian lands and expel the oppressed people from their residential areas "because the apartheid regime feels secured by US imperialism."

“The implication of the current designs of the Netanyahu regime and the Zionist apparatus is based upon the fundamental financing of their operations by US imperialism and the constant use of US force to suppress the Palestinian population,” Schoenman told Press TV on Thursday night.

The logic of the US-backed Zionist atrocities is to “drive the Palestinians out of the West Bank and Gaza,” he noted.

The Israeli regime continues to defy international demands for halting demolition of Palestinian homes and expulsion of the oppressed people from their homeland, Schoenman said.

“The dynamic for expulsion of the Palestinian people remains fundamental to Zionism in whatever format,” he said.

International and regional efforts to reach consensus on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict have borne no fruit because the United States has usually vetoed most anti-Israeli resolutions, he said,

According to the analyst, “resistance” would be the only way to confront the US-sponsored Zionist expansionism.

“There can be no peace, no resolution of this crisis until imperialism has been confronted by resistance not only within Palestine but within all the states in which people are subjected by imperialism in similar fashion,” he noted.

On Wednesday, Secretary of State John Kerry defended a US decision to abstain a UN resolution condemning Israeli settlements in occupied Palestinian territories.

Analysts, however, say the Obama administration refused to veto the UN resolution because they wanted to show their resentment to Netanyahu’s anti-Obama policies.

Kerry said the so-called two-state solution is the only way to achieve a just and lasting peace between Israelis and Palestinians.

According to Schoenman, Israel does not want to respect the Palestinian’s rights and the so-called two-state solution cannot be a resolution because Tel Aviv cannot be both “Zionist” and “democratic” at the same time.
